Amber Bristowe – About

My yoga journey was a bit slow to start.

My yoga journey was a bit slow to start. I had dabbled for a few years but didn’t feel it was sufficiently ‘hardcore’ enough to make it a regular part of my training. Then I injured my knee in a climbing incident and required surgery. I wasn’t able to run but was desperate to do some form of exercise to quiet my brain.

A very patient friend suggested yet again that perhaps yoga might be helpful and finally I was ready to hear it.

I have tried most sports over the course of my life so I was reasonably fit and strong. I was slightly apprehensive going into my first class but didn’t think I was going to have too many difficulties. An hour later I had learned a valuable lesson in humility, non-attachment and how poor my breath control was! What I gained though was some peace from the constant mental chatter.

That was five years ago now and I still practice almost every day. Yoga has changed my life in so many ways.

Physically I have gained so much awareness and control over my body. I have improved or healed so many of my chronic injuries. Yoga improved my climbing, surfing and all my other activities, I am fitter, stronger, more flexible and more functional than I have ever been. For those reasons alone I would continue to practice but that was just the start of it.

Yoga has long been known to have mental and emotional benefits and as I continued to practice I found myself maintaining the calm I found on my mat through the rest of my day. Yoga taught me to be comfortably uncomfortable, both physically and emotionally. It has taught me compassion and forgiveness for myself and that not only is it ok to be kind to yourself, it is important

With each new lesson I felt more strongly that my teachers were talking directly to me and I have certainly experienced a big mental shift.

It was scary, I’m not going to lie, I’ve never started a business before. I had doubts about myself as a yogi, and as a yoga teacher but I have never been happier.

I feel so privileged to teach yoga and hopefully I’m helping others find their own yoga journey and effect positive change in their lives as much as I have in mine.
